Graincom GmbH: a new company joins the market

Graincom GmbH is the name of a new company that AGRAVIS Raiffeisen AG, as a majority shareholder, founded on 1 July, 2016. The main purpose of the Hamburg-based company is to manage national and international trade in brewing barley.

"Brewing barley is an interesting market within the grain trade grain trade, and by establishing this company, AGRAVIS is giving it the attention it needs, including from a business perspective," explains Dr. Clemens Große Frie, Chairman of the Managing Board. He goes on to explain that the new company represents a further step made by AGRAVIS to "grow in terms of quality and grab the opportunities available to us".

A total of approximately 6.5 million tons of brewing barley are traded worldwide every year. The main countries of cultivation in Europe are France, Great Britain and the Scandinavian countries. "I am certain that by expanding our brewing barley activities, we will be able to play an appreciable role in this market in the future," states Steffen Holsten, Department Head Agricultural Products at AGRAVIS.

Nils Krage will provide Graincom GmbH with special expertise and many years of experience in the brewing barley trade. He is a partner of the new company and will be responsible for its management.
