Heidemark, the leading supplier of turkey specialities in Germany, is mainly producing turkey feed in the plant in the Cloppenburg district. The approved annual production amounts to 275,000 tons. The factory has 16 employees who will be taken over by the new owner.
"We are very pleased that we have been able to successfully conclude the discussions with the executive manager Bernd Kalvelage that were held in an atmosphere of trust", explains Ludger Leifker, director of AGRAVIS Futtermittel GmbH, a subsidiary of the AGRAVIS group. For AGRAVIS and its cooperative partners this now resulted in the opportunity to further extend their market position as feed producer in an important processing region. Different AGRAVIS feed companies have already been working for Heidemark as external producers in the past.
"In the course of the strong growth over the last years, the core competence of Heidemark has shifted further and further away from feed production to the production of turkey specialities", explains Bernd Kalvelage, executive manager of the Heidemark group. In preparation of a change in generation in the family business it had been only logical to reposition the company accordingly. "From our point of view, AGRAVIS ist the ideal partner", emphasises Bernd Kalvelage. Apart from the regional aspects that spoke for AGRAVIS, Kalvelage underlines the growing importance of GMO-free feeds, in which respect there had been a close cooperation with AGRAVIS for many years already.
At the same time, he underlines the shared values connecting the two companies: "Quality, reliability and permanent relations". The Heidemark group has an annual need of turkey feed of around 750,000 tons, which could only partly be covered in Höltinghausen. "We are operating own feed plants across the entire field of activity of the Heidemark group", explains Leifker. The objective was to produce further feed volumes for Heidemark in the AGRAVIS plants.
During the year 2014, the AGRAVIS group had for the first time produced more than 4 million tons of feed in the group's own production facilities as well as in those of its associated companies and with that ranges among the largest producers in Germany. With its annual production tonnage, the AGRAVIS feed plant in Oldenburg has in the meantime been more and more stretched to the limits of its capacity. Considered under this point of view, AGRAVIS purchasing the plant in Höltinghausen makes even more sense, because the overall production of the Oldenburg plant can be optimised thanks to the additional location.
