Industrial truck driving test passed: start of apprenticeships at AGRAVIS Technik Münsterland-Ems and TecVis
Manoeuvring forwards and backwards round the course marked by cones, stacking and unstacking pallets, Saskia Haveloh handles her tasks superbly with the agile Hyster industrial truck: "An unfamiliar set of wheels, but easier to operate than I thought," she sums up after her first drive. - 32 apprentices recently began their apprenticeships at the ten locations of AGRAVIS Technik Münsterland-Ems GmbH and TecVis GmbH.
As early as the third week of their apprenticeships, the young men and women had to pass their first test at the Borken branch of AGRAVIS Technik Münsterland-Ems: the industrial truck driving test. This authorises them to drive forklifts – a legal requirement for all employees who need to use forklifts.
Test passed by everyone
The new employees had to prove their knowledge and skills in theory and practice. The two trainers Christian Schöttler and Georg Bratschke were pleased with their protégés: "The new apprentices made a successful start to their careers. They all passed the test, half of them without a single mistake." It is very useful for them to take their first test right at the start of their apprenticeship, as Bratschke explains: "The new employees learn all facets of the company from the start, including working in the warehouse – no matter which job they are training for. Driving forklifts is an aspect that everyone needs to master, including future clerks. Tested knowledge about the design of the vehicles, vehicle handling, stability, handling loads and much more is necessary in order to prevent accidents."
Apprenticeship ratio 25 percent
At the locations of the two AGRAVIS subsidiaries AGRAVIS Technik Münsterland-Ems GmbH and TecVis GmbH in Ahaus, Borken, Dörpen, Hörstel, Meppen, Meppen-Nödike, Münster, Olfen, Steinfurt and Veldhausen, a total of 82 apprentices are currently being trained as mechatronics technicians for agricultural and construction machinery, warehouse logistics workers, wholesale and export merchants, office management clerks and for the rare job of tyre vulcanisers. "This puts our apprenticeship ratio at 25 percent, which we are very proud of," say the two Managing Directors Stefan Ester and Heinz-Georg Mors.
Promotion of young talent part of company philosophy
For the Managing Directors, promoting their own young talent is part of the company philosophy, because their junior staff almost always come from the ranks of their own apprentices. Mors and Ester speak from experience: "The apprentices receive a very good training and get to know all the facets of the company and its locations extremely well during this time, and we get to know them too. Once they finish their apprenticeship, the young men and women can be employed in suitable positions according to their individual strengths and wishes." Tailored further training then ensures efficient and motivated junior staff. There is therefore always a great deal of interest in apprenticeships at AGRAVIS Technik Münsterland-Ems and TecVis. "We get a lot of applications every year, and we offer prospective apprentices the opportunity of a two-week placement so that we can get to know each other," the Managing Directors explain. "We don't just decide based on their school-leaving certificate. It is just as important that the future apprentice is suitable for the work in practice and shows commitment, that they fit into the company and enjoy the work. This year, we chose 32 apprentices, and they chose us."
