NetFarming: The digital footprint on the field
It is colourful, accurate to within centimetres, and digitally available on mobile EDP devices – the digital footprint of the field. This means that the yield potential of every section is visible or readable for both the human eye as well as for agricultural machines. Crop-specific evaluations based on multi-spectral satellite images make this possible. In the era of digitalisation, nothing works without technology and computers any more.

According to the German Agricultural Society (Deutsche Landwirtschaftsgesellschaft) over 70 per cent of farmers work with a smartphone daily. AGRAVIS Raiffeisen AG recognised this trend early, and within the new AGRAVIS subsidiary AGRAVIS NetFarming GmbH it has developed innovative products and services for the Precision Farming sector. The experts at AGRAVIS NetFarming meet regularly and inform their technicians and sales consultants as well, such as was the case at a meeting with Newtec West Vertriebsgesellschaft für Agrartechnik mbH in Peine.
Farmers build on increased yield
Progress is being made: "Phenomenal growth is being noted here" emphasised Frank Wiedenroth, managing director of AGRAVIS NetFarming GmbH. "This course must be set. Farmers are always behind increased yields". Jan Carl Habermann, sales representative of AGRAVIS NetFarming GmbH, answered all questions from participants with regard to management zone cards. "Red" means a high-yield zone, "yellow" means a medium-yield zone, and "blue" a low-yield zone. "Put it this way, this card is the digital footprint of the field", describes Habermann.
Area-specific application cards
With the management zone cards the farmer is fully aware of the sub-areas where he needs to heavily sow and fertilise, and where it is less profitable to do so. This means he can optimally distribute nutrients and increase yields. "I even wondered why a very good sub-area didn't provide any yield not long ago. Analysis showed that there is a barrier layer in the soil, and now I know", explained Franz Schulze Eilfing, farmer and head of crop cultivation sales consulting at AGRAVIS Raiffeisen AG.
So that the attachments subsequently know how much manure or seed should be applied, area-specific application cards are created based on the management zone cards, soil samples, as well as technical knowledge from the NetFarming advisor.
Support team supports application
These cards can either be directly sent to the terminal on the tractor via mobile internet or be provided via a USB stick. The farmer can then use the display during the ride to see if his machinery is actually applying the quantity of seed or manure that is specified in the application card. However, what happens if the technology in the field stops working? Who knows how it works and can repair it? "We have put together a multi-stage support team that can be reached at any time. At first, customers can call their sales consultant, then there is our specialist NetFarming team, as well as the technicians at the workshops. In the era of smartphones, this is no longer a problem", explains Frank Wiedenroth. "We do not want to provide convenience products, but applications that provide genuine added value and increase yields", he added.
