By NutrientExact we mean, first of all, optimisation to nine precaecally digestible amino acids. This means, for example, that protein feedstuffs such as soya extraction meal or rapeseed extraction meal are saved in the rations. This saving results in a targeted reduction of the crude protein content in the overall rations. In general, it can be assumed that a one per cent reduction in crude protein in the ration results in a ten per cent reduction in nitrogen excretion in the pig. A targeted reduction in phosphorus in the rations is made possible by innovative phytase concepts and taking into account the actual animal requirement for digestible phosphorus. At farm level, this means that farmers either need less leased land, can keep more animals on the same amount of land or have to export less manure.
A feed ration is made up of energy, protein and micronutrients. Well over 60 per cent of the costs are accounted for by the energy content of the feed. From an economic point of view, it is therefore very important to know the exact energy contribution of the individual feed components. In order to determine the energy that can actually be utilised by the pig, the balance of the gross energy consumed is calculated and the energy that leaves the organism as excretions is deducted. Taking into account the energy losses through faeces and urine, the "convertible energy" is obtained. This is the energy assessment system currently used in Germany.
However, the fact that energy is also lost to the body in the form of heat has not yet been taken into account. In the "Future Feeding" concept, this loss is taken into account and the actual usable energy, the so-called "net energy", is stated. EnergyEfficient therefore stands for the net energy assessment system, a more precise and therefore more economical energy assessment.
Feeding and animal health are closely linked. Animals that are exposed to a lack of nutrients or energy fall ill more quickly than others. The basis is a healthy intestine, as over 60 per cent of the immune system is located in the intestine. Crude fibre carriers and a good feed structure promote important intestinal health. They maintain intestinal motility, ensure the passage rate and reduce the risk of intestinal sluggishness or constipation. A flood of excess nutrients is avoided with the help of nutrient-exact feeding. The metabolism is relieved and the vitality of the animals is increased. The reduced nitrogen excretion reduces the ammonia content in the stable air; the strain on the respiratory tracts of animals and humans is reduced. In the "Future Feeding" concept, "HealthPlus" therefore stands for stable intestinal health, a strong immune system, metabolic relief and healthy respiratory tracts.
The "Future Feeding" concept is rich in yields in many ways: it convinces through lower feed costs, because we feed to the point without luxury consumption. The use of a pure finishing feed with reduced protein content alone can save up to one euro in feed costs per fattening pig. With the concept based on ideal protein, less excess crude protein has to be broken down - this relieves the metabolism and noticeably improves the air in the barn and the health of the respiratory tract. "Future Feeding" improves the animals' intestinal health through better fibre content. The costs for the additional health benefits can be reduced many times over. The main financial benefit comes from the lower nutrient content. This allows farmers to reduce the amount of land required for slurry spreading or the costs of slurry disposal, in some cases considerably.
