Preserving forage plants

Silierung describes a preservation process for carbohydrate-rich fodder plants, such as maize and green plants. Preservation is achieved by acidification through fermentation processes. The freshly harvested plants are compacted in watertight silos in the absence of air. Lactic acid fermentation then begins, which makes the freshly harvested forage suitable for storage.
