AGRAVIS and BayWa expand online auction platform for used agricultural machinery
The online auction platform for used farm machinery, ab-auction.com from AGRAVIS Raiffeisen AG (Münster and Hanover) and BayWa AG (Munich), has a new face. With the extensive relaunch of the portal, both the design and functions were completely revised. The ab-auction app for iOS and Android is likewise new with the bidder being able to participate in auction events whilst on the go.

Both of Germany's largest agricultural trade and service companies, AGRAVIS and BayWa, have mutually operated the online auction platform ab-auction.com since 2013. For the relaunch a big special auction is taking place on 27 September.
Both partners are expanding their second used farm machinery expertise further with the relaunch. Meanwhile, the matured online tool is an important platform for the sale of used farm machinery for both BayWa and AGRAVIS. "The diverse second used farm machinery market requires a central platform to be able to clearly offer the wide range of machinery available. Via the online sales channel ab-auction we can reach customers internationally. In our core areas in Germany the workshops near to the site are also available to the purchasers, an important advantage for the customer," explains Roland Schuler, Member of the Board of Directors for BayWa AG.
Addition to stationary offer
Both groups also have a stationary sales network of 350 locations available to them at which machinery can be viewed on-site. The present tense location for many farms leads overall to a decline in the willingness to invest. "The agricultural machinery field foresees a year of consolidation for every year of growth, sums up Johannes Schulte-Althoff," Member of the Board of Directors for AGRAVIS Raiffeisen AG. AGRAVIS Technikis well accepted on the market. There is continued investment in the performance and competitiveness of this field. AGRAVIS has paid particular attention to the expansion of second used farm machinery expertise with their various components.
The customer's trust is very important
In years gone by, ab-auction.com has established itself as a leading online auction platform for second used farm machinery on the internet. Behind ab-auction.com there are two solid companies with good names. "It is precisely when buying online and on an online auction that trust is very important. "With ab-auction our customers can buy from thousands of top second used farm machinery items that are of reliable, workshop-checked quality at auction from BayWa's and AGRAVIS's existing pools," explains Bernd Landes, Head of Second used farm machinery at BayWa.
Large target group
The target group, which is addressed through the offer, is large and stretches from the hobby farmer to the fully-professional with large machine fleet. "At the re-launch and the development of the ab-auction app, we, above all, invested in the user-friendliness. The page is on the whole clearer and optimised with a new bidding system," said Guido Ottens, Managing Director of AGRAVIS Technik Center GmbH.
Thrilling last few minutes of the auction
On ab-auction there are no longer reverse auctions at which the price falls from high to low. Every auction begins simply with a starting price and has an auction end. "The users outbid one another and the price increased from low to high," said Ottens. As soon as the time has expired and no one has bid any higher, the bidder can purchase the machine. Above all, it is exciting in the last few minutes of the auction: should the user bid in the last 60 seconds, the auction is extended by another minute.
New appearance, new functions
The optical appearance has also been changed: although the established logo remains the same, the lettering has been altered to a modern, striking yellow and grey. There are more new functions, for example the personal log-in area "my account". There the user can see his bids and purchased machines at a glance. Additionally, every user can watch machines and these are also visible in "my account". The website is optimised for all mobile devices. Furthermore, the user can bid live via ab-auction app and keep up-to-date on the auction news whilst on the go. The most important information is available on a tablet or smartphone via push messages.
Fundamentally, the bidder does not bear any auction fees, compared with other portals. Alongside the auction area there is also a "purchase area" in which the user can purchase machines instead of bidding on them and thereby can negotiate the price.
To open the new website there is a big auction with a special range of machines on 27 September at 19.00. A free-of-charge registration is required for auction participants.
