With total investment of over 12 million euros, an extremely modern site has arisen where sterile production of veterinary medicines can be produced in accordance with the state of the art, stated Thur. In addition, erection of the new building in Senden means that production and warehousing capacities have practically doubled. In the future, 5 million bottles of injectables and sterile powders can be filled in single-shift operation per year. The purification system used in production will be fully automated. Storage capacity will increase from 1,000 to 2,200 pallet spaces.

Comprehensive pharmaceutical process qualifications must still be carried out over the coming weeks. "We assume that the first batches will be produced in the new plant in December, and that we can gradually bring the plant up to full capacity in the first half of 2017", predicted Armin Thur.

Thomas Höltker, managing director of the subsidiary Animedica Herstellungs GmbH, gave particular thanks to the employees in Senden for their flexibility in the time after the fire. "A combined effort meant that it was possible to transfer production to our foreign production locations for a transitional period whilst facing severe time pressures. The employees of Invesa in Spain Invesa in Spain and Trei in Italy deserve our special gratitude for their support during the entire period where we were unable to produce anything at this location." Preparations for the restart in Senden were also prepared at the same time. The planning and construction phase lasted approximately 20 months. The actual reconstruction started in autumn 2015.

Since its foundation in 1972, and especially over the last few years, Animedica has continuously grown as a subsidiary of AGRAVIS. Milestones include the integration of the Spanish Invesa Group in 2012, with its excellent international network, and the acquisition of the Italian veterinary-pharmaceutical company Trei in 2014. The Animedica Group is active globally and provides supplies in more than 100 countries.

The importance of Animedica for the AGRAVIS Group was emphasised by Dirk Bensmann, member of the Board of Directors at AGRAVIS Raiffeisen AG: "Animal health is one of three strategic pillars in ourmain business segment regarding animals main business segment regarding animals . With compound feed, special feed, veterinary medicine, and corresponding affiliated companies, we generate a turnover of approximately €1.2 billion. The satisfaction of our customers has made it possible for us to grow in this segment during the course of the previous years".

"The current reopening is, above all, the result of a lot of hard work carried out by company management along with its employees. I look forward greatly to the clear commitment shown to the Coesfeld site”, stated District Administrator Dr Christian Schulze Pellengahr in his introduction. Even Sebastian Täger, mayor of Senden, greeted the investment: "Animedica is a very important company for our community, and provides qualified jobs for approximately 100 people. The decision of the AGRAVIS Group to rebuild the internationally active company after the tragic fire two years ago and provide extended capacity in Senden-Bösensell, is also a clear sign of commitment to our position as a business location." Before the barbecue started at the end of the celebratory opening, guests had the opportunity to take a guided tour of Animedica's new production site in Senden and gain first impressions of it.
