Who better to give an authentic account of what it’s like to manage or work on a modern farm than the people who are actually involved in the business? “I want people to talk to us, not about us, so I try to start a dialogue with the consumers. The Grüne Woche is a good platform for that,” says Claudia Bleckmann of her role as farm scout, which takes her to Berlin for two days. She was prepared for the dialogue with consumers in a workshop along with the other farm scouts, then she spends the whole day at the show farm, takes tours and talks about her experiences in the job and answers questions from interested visitors.
Claudia, who has a degree in agricultural engineering, runs the family farm in Werne with her husband. They specialise in asparagus cultivation and also operate a small hotel on the farm premises. When she was a child her parents had arable land, reared pigs and cattle and kept layer hens.
