Bring on the water: Münster's industry is taking care of the new linden trees in the promenade
By planting sixty young winter linden trees, 25 industrial establishments and private citizens in Münster, among them AGRAVIS Raiffeisen AG, have in March ensured that the gaps torn into the promenade during the previous year by the storm at Pentecost and the storm in July were closed.

- The plant fire brigade of BASF watered the 60 winter linden trees, which were donated for the promenade by industrial enterprises in Münster in March, with 6,000 litres of water. To guarantee the trees' water supply during the partly unusually hot weather of the past weeks, a special form of irrigation is now being used: the plant fire brigade of BASF will be taking care of the adolescent linden trees. "We as sponsor are particularly concerned about the lasting and long-term care of the trees planted in spring. This is why we have pondered after the long dry period how we can play a supportive part in this and have initiated today's irrigation campaign", Dr. Renate Bork-Brücken, plant manageress of BASF in Münster, explains the idea behind the campaign. "Although we have had some rain during the past days, these were not sufficient to adequately saturate the dry ground with moisture deep down in the area of the roots", she adds.
The entire project is being implemented in close consultation with the Green Spaces and Environmental Protection Department of the city of Münster. It is a further contribution by the industrial enterprises in Münster who are making their presence felt in assuming social responsibility. "We are very happy about this cooperation with the industry in Münster and its desire for a long-term commitment", emphasises Heiner Bruns, Head of the Department of Green Spaces and Environmental Protection. "With young trees it is the same as with other living organisms too: if they receive the care they need for a good start into life right from the beginning, they will also stay vital in the long term." He had been very pleased to hear of the wish of the representatives from the industrial enterprises in Münster to not only finance the trees, but to also accompany them in their growth and to care for them, says Bruns.
